A Denver Labor Day Tradition – A Taste of Colorado, Originally named Festival of Mountain and Plains established in 1895 as a carnival similar to New Orleans’ Mardi Gras, the festival was created to boost the city’s morale and vitality following the silver panic. In 1983, the Downtown Denver Partnership decided to bring back the spirit of the original festival to commemorate the opening of the 16th Street Mall. The following year, moved back to Civic Center Park Downtown Denver, where the event first began.

The Taste of Colorado is a Colorado Barricade legacy event. This year’s traffic control set up and road closures began on Tuesday the 28th and will wrap up Tuesday September 4th. This year’s event involves 1,000 hours of combined labor, 8,000 linear feet of crowd control and more than 100 hours of planning. Colorado Barricade takes on our second year with the Boulder Boulder’s sister race FORTitude. This Labor Day 10K Classic celebrates the great city of Fort Collins, taking participants on a scenic route that weaves through many classic Fort Collins neighborhoods while passing landmarks like City Park, downtown, and the Sonny Lubic Field at Canvas Stadium. The race is expected to sell out with 10,000 runners! Colorado Barricade staff have dedicated 100 hours of planning for the FORTitude and combined hours of set/takedown will amass 500 hours by the pickup of the last “no park” or glow post.
