Colorado Barricade kicked off the project at 7 pm on July 23 with lane closures and temporary striping of a new alignment for the duration of construction. Traffic was reduced to one lane in each direction from 6th Avenue to Holden Place. The new construction lane configuration opened the morning of July 24th. The target completion day is February 29th, 2020.
Work on this project involves the complete reconstruction of Federal Boulevard from West 7th Avenue to West Holden Place, including removal of all existing pavement and replacement with new concrete pavement, new raised landscaped medians, and the addition of a new third northbound lane. New sidewalks and curb ramps will also be constructed, as well as new traffic signals at West 8th And West 10th Avenues, with new trees installed on the east side of Federal Boulevard. Re-striping of Federal Boulevard will be on both ends of the new widened stretch of roadway. The work also includes removals, installation of a new 52” storm sewer, jacking of storm sewer, new outfall to Weir Gulch, retaining wall, curb and gutter, asphalt pavement and tie-in to side streets, irrigation systems for new landscaping, erosion control, traffic control, public involvement, and other related items. Ames Construction will be working with Colorado Barricade and other sub-contractors including: Sturgeon, Yeh and Associates and Xcel Energy.
